London Underground Guide
The Tube Traveller's Bible-The Utimate Guide to the Underground
London Transport and British Railways were always totally separate nationalised companies with the minimum co-operation necessary. In fact there is large suburban railway system across London but, in particular, South of the River Thames. However there has always been a good number of interchanges between the two systems in addition to the London Terminuses.
And yet not until a new map 'London Connections' appeared in Tube stations in the late '70s did Londoners ever have an easy guide, by way of a map with both systems on it. Since when there has been the quite nonsensical 'Privatisation' of British Rail into various licensed operators, the very sensible acquisition by London Transport of the North London Line and the former Silverlink which now appear on the Tube Map as Overground.
Completely bonkers has been the disappearance of the London Connections map from most London Tube stations and the rare appearance of Thameslink on it.
Travel Cards,Oyster etc are valid on both systems and buses and trams within the Greater London Area. Tickets
