Tolputt Carnage at Javea
For those playing in this game it will be one never forgot, not least by Australian Stephen Tolputt, who played an incredible innings, reputedly the highest ever in continental Europe. His feat was recorded in Wisden Cricketers Almanac. Matthew Engel, editor checked the details with MEB before committing to print. Stephen had been introduced to Nomads CC by Allen Abramson by way of a girl friend and scored a century at Abinger before re-locating to Ireland.*

By this time the ground at Javea was engulfed by the encroaching building development and entry was precarious. However the (Bob Cooke) Peake Sports artificial pitch was still in excellent condition and played beautifully. As Tolputt's innings progressed so more and more CW Nomads were outside the ground fielding balls as a succession of huge sixes cleared the outfield by some distance. Robinson a huge hitter of a cricket ball was a model of self discipline scoring 3 runs out of 106 and feeding Tolputt the bowling at every opportunity.

In reply Javea lost two early wickets but were then racing along and while Stansfield was batting were ahead on runs per over. Once he was out, although Javea continued to bat brightly, the task was way beyond them especially as wickets fell regularly. Amidst all this mayhem the octogenarian Jack Hyams bowled six overs for a mere 23 including the catching of Andrew Copeland off his own bowling.
