The Shropshire tour has been undertaken by Don Mann for many years under the banner of East African Wanderers. Don taught mathematics in Uganda and Russell was born there.A refugee from Idi Amin's excesses Don's tour brought together many who had lived,worked and played cricket in East Africa and in particular Uganda.However Don also joined the Nomads for whom John Nagenda and Zahid Shah played. Over the years there has been a steady number of Nomads participating with or without an East African connection as well as many UCL Academicals .
This year and henceforth it seemed to be a good idea to encompass the tour into the Nomads fixture list to insure its future. It is proposed that EA Wanderers be officially changed to EA Nomads. On this tour there were as well as Don & Russ Mann the following past and present Nomads-Charlton Lamb, Middleton Mann, Dan O'Sullivan, Mike Hodd, Andy Gregory and Dickie Bassett.
Nomads have toured in England since before WW1 and twenty years ago ran three England tours-East Anglia,Sussex & Dorset. More recently the emphasis has been to tour on the continent so the inclusion of the Shropshire tour is most apposite in Centenary year.Curiously in a summer which will be remembered and statisticaly confirmed to be the sunniest Don & Russ picked a wet week by the Wesh Border.
