What a shame it was that Brook CC called off our match for Saturday on Friday evening. This was particularly galling for several reasons apart from depriving members of a game. In midweek we had been approached to return to Hurlingham to replace Bradfield Waifs who could not raise a side. Secondly Nomads themselves suffered several drop outs triggering a great many Friday phone calls and emailng. In the end we had 11 with much thanks to Ollie Croom Johnson and Richard ‘Dickie’ Wise who re-arranged their domestic schedule to help us. Lastly Allen Abramson had secured a friend to play. Many thanks to the three of you.
Thirdly the weather Gurus had been forecasting beautiful weather at the weekend and Brook is a very picturesque ground on which to play. There was therefore much disappointment at this cancellation. Mark Surridge was able to get another game and scored 56 for Hetairoi CC against Thame CC Oxon. For the rest of us there was perhaps consolation in the Last Night at the Proms and the curvaceous form of superb Roumanian Soprano Angela Gheorghiu and the smile of the young blond violinist Leila Josefowicz.
It was agreed that a Brook match should be held earlier in the season on a Sunday or midweek in their cricket week.
