Jeremy Lascelles sets up  commanding victory

Jeremy Lascelles played probably his best ever innings ever for Nomads, in the context of the game, failing rather recklessly to make his well deserved century after an innings of great character and concentration.

Probably the strongest line up all season floundered on the damp seamer friendly Stowe pitch so that Nomads were reeling at 104-7.

However two resolute low order stands with first Joe Ireland and Jeremy and then Richard Woolhouse more than doubled the score to 259. All the more pity that the last wicket did not achieve  similar success as number 11 a decade ago hit 98* against Templars in a rain reduced 30 overs game! Jeremy,in a state of confusion(he had already refused a run on the pretext of protecting number 11 and keeping the strike) played a loose  cover drive and was comfortably caught at extra cover for 94.

Nomads total of 251 on a seamer friendly pitch was competitive. However the outfield was now drier and the pitch arguably more batter friendly than in the morning. It was all the more commendable then that Nomads bowlers then domonated the Templars innings.

Karl Thorns struck first, removing opener Clarke for a duck and apart from McCade and Nick Rice there was little resistance thereafter as wickets fell steadily to Hodges, Ireland, Ollie Smith and Woolhouse.

This is probably Nomads' largest victory at Stowe, representative of how popular the fixture is set in  magnificent surroundings with sumptous hospitality from the Templars.

Quite why the Match Manager and skipper on the day turned up so late is thus all the more puzzling as was his instruction to Jeremy Lascelles, who did the honours in his absence, that young Ollie should open with his Dad, especially so, as one of the opening bowlers was brisk and much too fast for Ollie at his stage of development, thankfully de la Pena was not playing!

A full enquiry was conducted at the hostelry in Chackmore after the match but no conclusion was reached despite the ale and food consumed.
